A free Medium post won't beat a competitor with a Forbes placement. Sometimes you need the heavier hitter. Premium parasite SEO puts your offer on established news outlets Google already treats as primary authority.
This is the most expensive tier of parasite SEO, and also the one where execution quality matters most. We source placements directly on Forbes, Yahoo Finance, Benzinga, AP News, and Business Insider at agency pricing rather than marking up a DIY rate card.
01 — The Outlets
| Outlet | Typical Niche Fit | Approx. Cost Range | Editorial Review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forbes (contributor network) | Business, finance, entrepreneurship | $1,000 to $10,000 | Heavy, varies by section |
| Yahoo Finance | Finance, investing, fintech, crypto | $400 to $800 | Moderate |
| Benzinga | Finance, stocks, crypto, trading | $300 to $700 | Moderate |
| AP News (syndicated wire) | General business, brand announcements | $500 to $1,500 | Light to moderate |
| Business Insider | Business, tech, finance, lifestyle | $500 to $1,200 | Moderate to heavy |
| Entrepreneur | Startups, small business, B2B | $300 to $600 | Moderate |
| Digital Journal | General news, press release style | $150 to $350 | Light |
| Mashable | Tech, consumer products, lifestyle | $400 to $900 | Moderate |
| iHeart (network affiliates) | Local, entertainment, consumer brands | $300 to $700 | Light to moderate |
| StreetInsider | Finance, investor relations, stock news | $250 to $600 | Light |
| IPSNews | General news, syndication heavy | $150 to $300 | Light |
| ManilaTimes | General news, international reach | $200 to $450 | Light |
| BigNewsNetwork | General news, syndication network | $150 to $350 | Light |
| NYWeekly | Lifestyle, local business, entertainment | $200 to $400 | Light |
| The Resident | Lifestyle, local UK focused content | $250 to $500 | Light to moderate |
Treat that cost range as a current snapshot, not a fixed rate card. Outlets adjust pricing based on demand, and some run promotional periods or bulk pricing for agencies that place regular volume, which is part of why working with someone who places consistently usually gets you a better rate than a one-off DIY buy.
02 — Trust Signals
Google's trust signals for a domain like Forbes or AP News are built over decades of editorial history, backlinks from other major publishers, and consistent crawl frequency. A new article published there inherits a meaningful share of that trust immediately, in a way a brand new Medium account simply can't match on day one.
That's also why indexing on this tier moves faster. Free parasite placements typically take seven to fourteen days to index and start showing initial rankings. Premium news placements can index the same day, sometimes within hours, because these domains get crawled by Google constantly regardless of what's published on them.
When I ran a premium placement campaign for a finance client last year, the Benzinga post was indexed and showing in search results within about six hours of going live. The keyword target was moderately competitive (KD around 35 on Ahrefs), and the post held a page one position within eleven days. A free platform placement targeting the same keyword, running in parallel as a test, took closer to three weeks to reach a comparable position. That gap is the entire value proposition of this tier.
03 — Policy & Risk
This is the section we'd be doing you a disservice by skipping. Google's Site Reputation Abuse Policy, which took effect in November 2024, exists specifically because of what happened with large-scale sponsored content programs on exactly this kind of domain.
Forbes Marketplace is the case study everyone in this industry references, and for good reason. For years, Forbes ran a contributor network that allowed a large volume of commercially motivated, loosely reviewed content to publish under the Forbes domain. Lars Lofgren's investigation into how that program actually operated is still the most detailed account of how far that model scaled before scrutiny caught up to it. Outlook India's run of CBD and streaming site placements followed a similar pattern.
The policy that resulted from those cases targets volume and editorial detachment, not the existence of sponsored content itself. A handful of well-written, properly disclosed sponsored posts on AP News or Yahoo Finance, each one passing through that outlet's actual editorial review, looks nothing like the bulk subdomain renting that got penalized. That distinction matters, and it's the reason we keep placement volume on premium outlets deliberately conservative per client rather than maximizing quantity.
We'll also be straight with you: this tactic sits in gray-hat territory. You're buying influence over editorial placement on a trusted domain specifically to rank, not because the outlet sought out your story organically. What keeps it on the safer side of that line is disclosure, genuine content quality, and not treating any single outlet as a renewable, unlimited inventory source.
04 — Strategy
Premium news placements rarely work best as a standalone tactic. The pattern we see across client campaigns is a small number of premium placements (often just one to three) supported by a wider base of free platform placements and a Tier 2 link pyramid underneath the whole structure. The premium post establishes the strongest trust signal, the free placements add supporting topical coverage and SERP presence, and the Tier 2 links push authority into both layers.
This is also where the "Priority access" line in our Domination package comes in. Clients on that tier get first access to premium outlet inventory each month, which matters more than it sounds like, since outlet relationships and available slots shift, and reliable access to inventory on a name like Forbes or Yahoo Finance isn't something every agency maintains.

06 — Execution
You can buy a sponsored post on most of these outlets directly if you know who to contact and you're comfortable negotiating rates yourself. Charles Floate's course and various Facebook groups will point you toward outlet contacts if that's the route you want.
What that route doesn't give you is the keyword research to confirm the placement is worth the spend, content written to that specific outlet's editorial voice (a Forbes contributor piece and a Benzinga finance post read completely differently, and submitting the wrong tone gets posts rejected or heavily edited), and the relationship history that gets a placement approved and live instead of stuck in an editorial queue for three weeks.
We've built those relationships over 14 plus years and 250 plus client campaigns, and that's the part you're actually paying for on this tier, not the platform access itself.
07 — FAQ
Mid-tier finance and business outlets like Benzinga or Yahoo Finance typically run $250 to $800 per placement. Top-tier names like Forbes can run from $1,000 up to $10,000 depending on the section and current editorial demand. Pricing shifts, so treat any number here as a current range rather than a fixed rate.
Not inherently. Google's Site Reputation Abuse Policy targets bulk, editorially detached sponsored content programs, not the existence of a single well-disclosed sponsored article. The risk increases with volume and decreases with genuine editorial review and proper disclosure.
Premium placements can index the same day in some cases, compared to seven to fourteen days for most free platform placements. Actual ranking position still depends on keyword difficulty and what's currently occupying the top ten results.
Yes, this happens, and it's worth knowing going in. Outlets occasionally pull sponsored content after publication, sometimes due to internal policy changes, sometimes due to advertiser pressure, and sometimes with no clear reason given at all. We track placement status for clients and can secure a replacement placement if one gets pulled.
For most clients, free platform placements come first because they're faster to test and lower cost per placement. Premium placements make the most sense once you know a keyword justifies the spend, or for niches like finance and ORM where domain trust matters more than usual.
