Enter your numbers. See projected traffic, revenue, and payback period before you spend a cent.
01 — Honest Tool Scope
This tool runs a straightforward revenue projection model: search volume times your estimated click through rate gives you traffic, traffic times your conversion rate gives you customers, customers times your average sale value gives you revenue, and revenue compared against your budget gives you the ROI multiplier and payback period. That's it. There's no hidden formula and no proprietary algorithm pretending to know more than basic math allows.
What it doesn't do: pull live search volume for your specific keyword, know your actual click through rate on a parasite placement versus your own domain, or guess your real conversion rate. Those numbers come from you, ideally from your own Google Search Console data, a real Ahrefs or SEMrush pull, or a reasonable estimate based on your niche. Garbage in still means garbage out here, the same as any projection tool you'd find on Ahrefs' blog or anywhere else in this space.
We built it this way on purpose. A tool that quietly assumes your numbers and dresses up a guess as a sophisticated calculation isn't actually more useful, it's just more convincing while being wrong. This one shows you exactly which five numbers drive the result, so you can sanity check each one against what you actually know about your business.
Want help getting real numbers instead of estimates? See our parasite SEO services and we'll run the keyword research with Ahrefs and SEMrush as part of your campaign.
02 — Reading Results
ROI multiplier is your total projected revenue divided by your campaign budget. A 5x multiplier means five dollars back for every dollar spent over the campaign window you set. Across the 250+ campaigns we've run since 2011, a well matched keyword and platform combination typically lands in the 5x to 10x range against the cost of a done for you placement, though plenty of campaigns beat that and plenty of weak keyword choices fall well short. Traditional on site SEO content, by comparison, often takes 6 to 12 months just to start ranking before any revenue shows up at all, which is most of the case for parasite placements in the first place.
Payback period tells you how long until the projected revenue covers your budget. A payback period under two months on a $250 Growth package is a strong signal the keyword and conversion assumptions are realistic. A payback period stretching past your campaign's months live setting means the math doesn't work at these inputs, and the tool will flag that directly rather than hiding a discouraging number behind an impressive looking multiplier elsewhere on the page.
Net profit is the plain dollar figure most people actually care about once the multiplier stops feeling abstract. It's revenue minus budget, full stop.
03 — Why Five Inputs
A more elaborate version of this tool could ask for ten or fifteen inputs, customer lifetime value, churn rate, attribution windows, seasonality adjustments. We left those out, and not because they don't matter. They don't change the core decision this tool exists to help with: does spending this budget on this keyword make rough financial sense before you commit. Five inputs get you there without making the tool feel like a homework assignment, and Search Engine Journal's own writing on SEO ROI modeling makes a similar point, that simple, directionally correct models get used, and elaborate ones mostly get abandoned halfway through.
If your business genuinely needs the more elaborate model, lifetime value matters a lot for subscription SaaS, for instance, that's exactly the kind of conversation we have on a real audit call, where we can ask the follow up questions a static tool can't.
04 — Honest Limits
A few things this calculator can't account for, worth knowing before you treat the output as gospel:
It assumes consistent monthly performance. Real rankings climb, sometimes plateau, sometimes get hit during a Google core update, and the assumption of flat monthly revenue across your whole campaign window is a simplification, not a forecast of what actually happens month to month.
It doesn't know your actual keyword difficulty. A keyword with no real competition might convert faster than this model predicts. A keyword fighting against entrenched DA 90 sites might take longer to even reach the traffic level you've entered, regardless of what the calculator shows.
Conversion rate is the input most people guess wrong. A 2 percent conversion rate sounds conservative until you remember most B2B SaaS pages convert under 1 percent, and most ecommerce category pages convert under 2 percent industry wide. Pull this number from your own analytics if you have any traffic at all already, rather than picking a number that feels right.
It treats the campaign budget as a one time cost. Some campaigns make more sense as an ongoing monthly spend rather than a single placement, and this tool models a single budget against a fixed window, not a recurring investment.
We'd rather you know these limits going in than discover them after making a decision based on an overconfident number.
05 — FAQ
No. Ahrefs and SEMrush pull real search volume, keyword difficulty, and click through curve data from their own indexes. This tool runs the math on numbers you supply yourself. It's a planning calculator, not a keyword research tool.
Google Keyword Planner gives a rough range for free. Ahrefs or SEMrush gives a more precise figure if you have access. If you genuinely have neither, a real campaign audit with us includes that research as a first step.
Check Google Analytics or Search Console for your own site's historical conversion rate on similar traffic first. If you have nothing to go on, 1 to 2 percent is a reasonable starting assumption for most commercial intent keywords, and the affiliate and review preset reflects roughly that range.
If your inputs don't recover the budget within the months live window you've set, the tool tells you directly rather than letting an impressive sounding multiplier elsewhere on the page distract from a result that doesn't actually work financially.
Yes, that's exactly the comparison it's built for. Run the same keyword assumptions against each budget tier and see how the payback period and ROI multiplier shift. See full pricing.
Not directly. Those factors affect how fast you reach the traffic level you've entered, not the revenue math once you're there. Faster indexing generally means a shorter real world timeline to hit your projected numbers, which is one reason every package we sell includes the Tier 2 link layer at no extra charge.
